American rapper Nasir bin Odu Dara Jones (/na/'sI@rborn on the 14th of September 1973) Also popularly referred to as Nas (/naz/). Nas is considered to be one among the top rappers of all time being a native of East Coast hip-hop. The son of the jazz musician Olu Dara, Jones's musical career started in 1989 when he adopted the moniker of "Nasty Nas" and recorded demos for Large Professor. He was later featured on the single "Live at the Barbeque" by Main Source. Nas's first album, Illmatic (1994), was received acclaim from all over the world upon its release, and is considered to be among the most influential hip-hop albums of all time; in 2021 the album was inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry. His follow-up album It was Written (1996) debuts on the top spot of the Billboard 200. It charted for four consecutive week and received universal acclaim. In 2021 the album was accepted into the National Recording Registry.
