Donna Douglas (born Doris Ione Smith; September 26 1932 - 1 January 15th, 2015.) was an American actress and singer, famous for her character as Elly May Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-1971). Douglas was an actress and a singer who later became a real estate agent and gospel singer. She also became a motivational speaker and writer for children and adults. This, along with other TV appearances, have led New York photographers and newspaper reporters to award her the "Miss By-line" crown and she was featured in CBS' The Ed Sullivan Show.Hal B. Wallis saw the Sullivan episode and decided to cast her as Marjorie Burke in the movie drama Career (1959), starring Anthony Franciosa, Dean Martin, and Shirley MacLaine. The musical comedy Li'l Abner (1959), followed by the part of secretary in Lover Come Back (1961), which was a film starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day.
