 Melania Trump (/m@'la:ni@/ m@-LAH-nee-@; born Melanija Knavs (me'la:nija's name is Knavs),] Germanized as Melania Knauss (pronounced "me'la:nia'knaUs") 26 April 1970) is a Slovene-American former model and businesswoman who was the First Lady of the United States from 2017 to 2021 as wife of the 45th president Donald Trump.Trump grew up in Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia) and was employed as a fashion model with agencies in the European fashion capitals of Milan and Paris prior to moving to New York City in 1996. She was associated with Irene Marie Models and Trump Model Management. In 2005, she married the real estate developer and television personality Donald Trump and gave birth to Barron, their son. Barron in 2006. In the same year, she was an American naturalized citizen. Following Louisa Adams, she is the second woman in America to be naturalized. She was also the first first lady to be born in English. Knavs was raised in a small home in Sevnica in the Lower Sava Valley. Her father was a member of the League of Communists of Slovenia. This group advocated a policy of the state's atheism. Like many other people however, he did not have his daughters baptized as Catholic. When the Trumps were able to meet Pope Francis in the Vatican in 2017 Melania brought her rosary to the Pope and requested the Pope to bless it.
